Loving the cltpoeximies of indian postal services! All still sounds incredible, not least the generosity the vast majority of the locals are showing. The Kms are beginning to fly by too sounds like your legs are beginning to rip it up. Keep it up both,Tom

our second Antipodean point is in Southern Chile and we are currently in Ecuador - we thought we might be staying here another month but the visa renewal costs are out of our price range and so we are heading towards Peru and expect to cross either Friday or Saturday (the day our existing visa expires) - guess we are a couple of months away in time

Yeah, we think it's incredible too. We can't believe how quickly that year has gone. I just returned from Columbian Customs today, and whilst it's not been as long, it's been similar in complexity. And 'out of our control' costs.
We have folwn to Columbia because it's not possible to drive from Panama into Columbia - there is a strip of protected Primary rainforest that is not only dense and has no roads, but is also populated by guerillas of the FARC and drug runners, and has somewhat hostile local tribes living there.
It has been crossed by expeditions before - about 4 times - but all but one of them used small boats to cross waterways etc. The only totally land based crossing was made on the team's third or fourth attempt with a Jeep. The distance travelled was 127 miles, and it took 714 days!
We had planned that after Landy was shipped, we would take a short internal flight to the border on the Caribbean coast, take a water taxi across the border, then another fast boat ride to Turbo ( a coastal town in Columbia) then bus ride to Cartegena to collect the truck. In the end, we couldn't make that work in terms of cost, predictability, and personal safety, so we opted for a flight via Bogota.
One guy who made the longer trip arrived with horror stories, so we probably chose wisely :-/
