Other Travellers
Inspirational and an essential resource is reading about the journies, expeditions and trips of others. Some may still be travelling, finished travelling (or now) or planning new journies.
www.4x4overlandtravel.co.uk - This forum website is a great source of resources including other expeditions, past, present and future.
AdventureTheAmericas – due to set out in April 2012 – check out their progress
AdventurouSpirits – we’re not the only mad couple out there – these guys sound on our wavelength
Amerika en Kombi – we met this lovely couple when they were hitching a lift back down the mountain to their travelling home (who had refused to climb as high as they had wanted to go up Cotopaxi volcano). Looks like we are on a similar route for a while but as we’ve been held up in Ecuador longer than expected we don’t know if we’ll get a chance to meet up again. You will need to cut and paste their blogs into a translator program.
Arminius on Tour - meet Arminius and his drivers Ingrid & Joerg Bareuther – we met them at the Overland Expo in Arizona in April 2011 when we were set up next door to them at the show. Amazingly we bumped into them again as they were taking the Quilotoa Loop in Ecuador, while we were staying in Yalo on the Loop.
Belgium Around the World – the trip name for Jeff & Juliet’s three and half year expedition investigating and raising awareness for animal conservation and welfare issues around the world. It was great to meet a couple with whom we felt we had so many experiences and views in common. We look forward to keeping in touch. Good luck with the readjustment as you return home in October.
CaT’s Itchy Feet – Clive and Taniya have travelled Africa and are planning to head towards Europe and Russia – we look forward to exchanging stories
Cornwall to Cape Horn - We met Benjy Davenport at the Royal Geographical Society Show before we left the UK – he first attempted his round the world trip by leaving the UK just before us in 2010 but was forced home by a collision with a drunken Kamikaze driver in Ukraine, which put paid to our plans to meet up in Ulaanbaatar - he plans to set off again again in April/May 2011 – see where he’s at now – particularly as he is raising funds and awareness for a rare heart condition
Crazy Guy on a Bike - one of many crazy guys on bikes from the look of the website – the link here leads to Colen’s page on the Crazy website
Crossing Borders – website for Crystal & Jiri (and Yukon) – working particularly around Eastern Europe promoting international awareness in schools
Drive the Americas – one couple regularly driving the Americas!
Global Detour - travelling the world in a Land Rover Defender
Guzzie Overland - we met these guys on the road (in Tsetserleg, Mongolia) – take a look at their blog and amazing 30 year old bike on their travel website
Heatha & Marco are cycling in South America – we met them while we were broken down in Yalo in Ecuador. My hats off to them for cycling these hilly cobbled roads. With similarities in our journey we may meet again!
Job Hunt Across America – we met Scott & Leslie, travelling with their four children, at an RV park in Petaluma, Northern California – doing what the title says – good luck guys
Jungle Family from France – We met Georges, Geraldine & Yannick at Misal-Ha Falls, nearing the end of their 18 months on the road in Central & South America
Koppa – Swiss couple we met in passing in Belize – site is not in English but we recognise many of the photos of places they have been since we met
Land Rover Expedition Guides includes links to other travellers
Lee & Helen are relocating to Australia with their daughter Beverley and taking their time about getting there, in their zebra striped Landy - we met them at the Oasis guest house in Ulaanbaatar – wishing you all the best for your future
Me, thee & Bee - travelling the world in a Land Rover called Bee – starting in North, Central & South America – due to head off towards Europe and Africa next
The Motonomads are undertaking a visionary trip around Latin America to raise awareness and work with charities in support of poor and homeless children
Take the culinary route around South America with professional photographer Duncan Smith and Motorcycle Menus - we met up with him on the mountain pass to Huaraz as we crossed the ‘Black Mountains’
On The Wrong Side – we met Charlie Frew on the road in Mongolia – sadly going in the opposite direction to us but it was great to share stories by the roadside before we both had to move on – he was raising awareness for global environmental issues and has now returned to England (Jan 2011)
PanAm11, otherwise known as Axel & Yanira, stopped to sa Hi when we stuck in Yalo in Ecuador. We’re on a similar route so may meet up again. Good luck guys.
Rosie Around the World – website of Rosie Swale-Pope who took five years to run all the way around the world – in the footsteps of the famous we camped in the car park of a cafe just outside Chita in Siberia where Rosie also camped (see our blog dated 4.10.10)
Sandra & Jason Hasselmann are a great couple we met in Pamana as we both headed south from Central into South America – catch up with how they are doing on their trip from Canada to Argentina via their wordpress blog
Smiles and Miles – this is a great title for Miles and Tracey who we met at Panama Passage Guesthouse in Panama City as they are travelling south through the Americas on their Ural motorcycle with sidecar – using the link check out their blog as our journeys cover similar routes for a while
SprinterLife – came across this couple’s website and thought it looked interesting – covering some of the ground we are I’ll be back there to check up how they are doing
‘The Germans’, as they titled their food in the shared cupboards at Panama Passage Guesthouse in Panama City while we were both there sorting out how we got around that tough bit of land that separates Central and South America – two couples, two vehicles – check out their photos (unless you can read German, in which case check out their blogs too)
Time2GetLost is the website handle for Ryan who we met up with at Panama Passage in Panama and travelled with to Colombia and on to Bogota where we parted ways. In the meantime it was great to travel in convey with another Land Rover Defender with roof tent. Ryan is pretty much heading on the same route we are for the next few months so we may have the opportunity meet up again.

Where the Hell is Murph … – a mad biker guy we met at the Overland Expo in Amado in April 2011
